Common Pests in April

Pests of April

While we are all mostly stuck at home you may be seeing a few common April pests around your shared space. Pests are not something I think you want to be sharing your quarantine time with, and neither should you have to.

  • Ants- Are among one of the most difficult pests to control. Ants can show up pretty much anywhere from restaurants, homes, apartment buildings and offices. They can contaminate food in your kitchen and carpenter ants can cause damage to the structure of your home.

  • Spiders- One of the creepiest thus far, however don’t pose much of a threat to humans. Still no one wants a to wake up to spider bite especially when it’s by a black widow or brown recluse. If you fall victim to a spider bite by either of these spiders you will want to seek medical attention right away. Living by large open fields and creeks can place you in a vulnerable spot for spiders making way into your home. But let's face it again much like ants, spiders will show up anywhere, especially in dark garages.

  • Bedbugs- These “hitchhiker” pests can often come into your home undetected, and if you tend to keep an untidy home they can rapidly take over your bedroom or any room for that matter. No one wants to share a bed with bedbugs. Humans are a bedbugs main food source. Once they are in our home, they hiding during the day they creep out at night to “feed” on your blood. OUCH!

  • Termites- Causing over $5 billion in property damage every year termites are one of the most destructive underestimated pests for April. Given enough time without being treated or detected, termites can destroy an entire structure. Some people will come across termite damage or evidence (droppings) and often overlook it or simply put off calling a professional which can lead to costly repairs later. Don’t let the fumigation tent on your block happen to you.

Common Pest Control Tips for April:

  • Eliminate standing water.

  • Keep all areas in home and garage free from clutter.

  • Do not store wood near your home.

  • Check all seals around doors and windows.

  • Properly dispose of trash, do not leave it out.
